Unit 22 work:Task 2 Product research for the urban net ident.


PASS & MERIT Task 2

Topic A.2 Developing ideas for digital media products



Task 2: Develop ideas for a digital media product by researching existing media products relevant to your own product idea.

·         Find 3 existing current examples (Idents or Music Video) and create

PASS Task 2a) Create a mind map (using Popplet) of the recognisable conventions/similarities in all 3 examples, add images of where you have identified some of these in your examples

·         Which Digital TV Channels?

·         Which Youtube Channels?

·         What websites (for the channel or the record company or artist’s website?)

·         Show how you can access them on mobile phone, tablet, computers

MERIT Task 5 Annotation

What is the aim (purpose or intention) of this research into 3 existing products?

Lots of bright colours, electronic music in the background, beat editing, has the channel logo, fast paced editing, has a jingle, the ident follows a theme and finally most idents are digitally edited.  My aim was too find out what conventions to use for this ident so it will appeal to the target audience.  




distribution
From YouTube, on different social media websites IE intstagram and twitter. The aim for this was to find out where my ident will be distributed and where the ident will be seen.




platform
Iphone, a laptop, a mac, electronic tablets. The aim was too find out what platforms my target audience use most so I know where to publish the ident. My target audience use laptops and iphones the most so once the ident has been made it will be published online on the official urban net YouTube channel.  










MERIT Task 5 Annotation

quick cuts & beat editing
The idents I looked at all had fast editing to keep the audience’s attention. They also had beat editing to the background music.




Use of stop motion of CG animation
All the idents I looked at for research had digital editing in them. However, I will be unable to edit it digitally so I will be using stop motion animation instead. 




use of close ups
The examples I looked at had some close ups in them. However I will not be using a lot of close ups in my product. The only time any close ups are used would be on the channel’s logo.




lip synching or Branding of the channel
The branding of the channel is very important. So when making my ident I shall be sure to add the Urban Net ident and add its signature colour purple and green in my ident. 




narrative or story
The ident will only have a very small narrative. It will be following the theme of the channel: exploring new things to enjoy and showing that it’s ok to be lazy.




locations
The location of the ident will be inside a college or building. This is because I will be using a green screen. However should that fail I will be using real outdoor urban locations for the ident.




genres of music
The genre of music will be pop/electronic. The original song that is used was a pop song. However the song will be in a 8-bit remix adding an electronic tone to it. 




costume
The costume will just being regular clothing that people in our target audience wear. For a t-shirt, tracksuit trousers and a housecoat.
